Boulder City rail trail PDF Print E-mail

We hit the historic railroad trail at Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Boulder City for an upcoming story in Rails to Trails magazine.

It was about 95 degrees or so when we were out on the trail, hot, but not unbearable.

These tunnels on the trail certainly help.

Check out the rest of the pix, including some of bighorn sheep we saw, after the jump.

We found this during the inaugural trip in the new Nevada Outdoor News 4x4. It looks like some local yokels decided it wasn't enough to dump their garbage along a dirt road heading north from Kyle Canyon Road about eight miles west of Highway 95.

No, they had to shoot the trash, too.

The sweet awning isn't even the most awesome feature on the new Nevada Outdoor News booze news cruiser.

It's a 1999 Isuzu Trooper. It should get us further into the Nevada outback where Elko, the newshound, can further hone his napping ability.

Check out the best feature of them all after the jump.

The highest people in Las Vegas PDF Print E-mail

Before anyone starts griping that pictures from a Las Vegas casino don't have anything to do with an outdoors Web site, please note most of them were actually shot outdoors.

They're shots from a recent trip to the top of the Stratosphere with some out-of-town friends. I was going to just keep them for personal use (the pictures, not the friends because, well, if you try to enslave friends for your own personal benefit they will likely cease to become friends) but this one with the maintenance guys working on the carnival rides while it is operating was too fun to keep to myself.

Just a few tweaks to the old gearhouse, no need to stop the ride. What could possibly go wrong?

Nevada Outdoor News Independence Day Death Valley Extreme Endurance Golf Challenge: 2009 PDF Print E-mail

Another Fourth of July, another golf pilgrimage from Las Vegas to Death Valley, Calif.

We think of it as an endurance test for Nevada Outdoor News tribe members, like the Badwater Ultramarathon is to extreme athletes.

If the Badwater had golf carts. And beer. And no actual running.
