Henry Brean wrote this piece about the Amargosa River for today's Review-Journal.

The story does a nice job explaining what a "wild and scenic" designation by the government could do for the river.

It made us add the Amargosa to our list of places to visit. Thanks, Henry!

Just because times are tough doesn't mean we're giving up our spa treatments.

We're just going further afield to take them.

Click here to read about Ash Springs, a hot spring destination in Lincoln County, just 100 miles from Las Vegas.

It's completely free, easy to get to and you can even take the dog. Elko (pictured above) says to hurry!

Enjoy this exciting installment of National Park Service news!

And all I got was a lousy discount on gasoline?

This sign was posted on the Moapa Paiute Travel Plaza about 50 miles north of Las Vegas on Interstate 15. It's on the reservation of the Moapa Paiute Band of Paiute Indians.

There's a stunning selection of booze and fireworks here and it is conveniently located on the way to many of our favorite outdoor haunts.

Read more about it in our new "Roadside oddities" category!
