Conquering Red Rock, after the storm PDF Print E-mail

Elko, the newest newshound at Nevada Outdoor News, joined the crew today for a trip to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area just as an all-day storm was clearing out of Las Vegas.

We started the day in the early afternoon at Floyd Lamb State Park. It was a steady downpour and we didn't do much but get wet and hang out under a shelter.

Fortunately, the storm broke when we were on the way home so we decided to head out to Red Rock to get some rock scrambling and hiking in before dark.

We got pictures of the snow making the Spring Mountains look like the Himalayas, a stream that washed over the scenic loop and some more of Elko sniffing around. Read on.

This guy wants to go outside.

Whether or not he gets to will depend on the weather.

Here's what it looked like Friday morning from the end of our street.

That's a storm hanging over Red Rock. And the forecast calls for more of the same.

Let's hope the weather people are wrong ... which wouldn't be a stretch.

If we get out the plan is to hit Valley of Fire State Park

And, of course, pass along a full report.

We've been seeing a ton of dogs on the trail lately.

Perhaps it's time to launch a dog blog?

Here's a pic of a dog named Daisy we saw in the Calico Basin.

If you'd like us to start the trail dog blog, tell us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
