We hiked Lost Creek in Red Rock Sunday morning with our friend Mark, one of the kindest and most enthusiastic hikers in Las Vegas.

We'll post the details later. Here's a shot looking out toward Las Vegas, you can make out Mandalay Bay and Luxor in the distance.

But for now we're heading down to beautiful Laughlin, Nev., for cheap craps and fun, fun, fun!

It's Sunday, so we'll take a moment of reflection to worship at the House of Stupid.

We shall do so with an update to the Nevada Outdoor News idiot log.

Perpetrators of this stupidity walk among us:

More pix after the jump ... with names!!! All shot near stunning waterfall at Lost Creek, in Red Rock National Conservation Area.

Bring your mountain bike to Las Vegas PDF Print E-mail

This mountain bike trail is within about a 20 minute drive from the Las Vegas Strip.

It's part of a large network of trails in Cottonwood Valley.

We just got back from a ride and filed a report on the trails.

As usual, the riding here was great. Even though the newly paved parking lot had plenty of cars, the trails didn't seem crowded at all.

Although anyone who was out here before they fixed up the Late Night Trailhead parking area would notice more people than they're used to.

Until several months ago, the parking area was unpaved and barely noticeable from Highway 160. We rode out here after work in the summer and on weekend mornings.

If there were three or more cars parked here, it was a lot. Now it's not unusual to see 10 or more.

The shot above is looking north toward Red Rock Canyon.

Below is a shot looking east. I included it to show how close these trails are to Las Vegas.

Check out the top of the Stratosphere poking out over the ridge.

This story unfolded in Colorado. But the action sequence is so crazy it is like a movie. So we decided to post it.

It involves a van teetering on the edge of a cliff. Be sure to click through to the photo gallery.

The Los Angeles Times has an update on trees in the west. They're all dying. Which is bad.
