Water and fire: Lake Mead NRA PDF Print E-mail
Written by Ben S.

We took a day off from work and made a quick afternoon drive through Lake Mead National Recreation Area which Elko, obviously, found to be a relaxing trip.

All told from downtown Las Vegas to the Boulder City entrance, north to Overton and back downtown was about 150 miles. But it's a great afternoon drive and a chance to play in a little water and see bright red Bowl of Fire landscape in the northwestern part of the park.

We took off Sunday afternoon for a quick trip to Lake Mohave via Eldorado Canyon.

It's off Highway 165 past Nelson, a small community about 25 miles south of Boulder City.

The shot above is from Eagle Wash. But we saw so much more, old mining buildings, a modeling shoot and gorgeous lake views.

Woke up Monday morning to the sound of this stream. It's Timber Creek in the Schell Crek Range north of Ely, Nev.

We'll post more later on the trip, including entries on the Success Loop, Cave Lake, the $1 million courthouse in Pioche and, of course, the Timber Creek campground.
