We took off Sunday afternoon for a quick trip to Lake Mohave via Eldorado Canyon.

It's off Highway 165 past Nelson, a small community about 25 miles south of Boulder City.

The shot above is from Eagle Wash. But we saw so much more, old mining buildings, a modeling shoot and gorgeous lake views.

We hung out down by the lake, the temperature was perfect and Elko took in the view.

Robin was a great sport, hiking from the Eagle Wash parking area down to the lake despite wearing only flip-flops.

We saw this bird nest built into the rocks.

Elko also got to go off leash ... for awhile.

After this shot Elko spotted some quail and took off after them. We tracked him through those bushes and up the rocks to the right side of the photo.

Then he doubled back on the hillside several hundred feet along steep terrain with loose footing.

After not even coming close to catching any quail, he stopped about three minutes and maybe 500 to 800 feet from where he started.

It was back on the leash after the quail stunt.

And after the lake excursion it was back up the canyon to the old Techatticup Mine.

We didn't take the mine tour although Bobbie, one of the caretakers, says it goes down into the old mine.

We did kick around at the store and in some of the barns and outbuildings there.

The shot above is the view east from the second floor of the barn. They seem pretty laid back about letting people explore the buildings. There are chairs all over the place, making it a great place to take a picnic lunch.

There's all sorts of odd stuff inside the barn, like a birdcage full of bones, a bunch of antique outboard motors, old tools, a jukebox and too much other stuff to list here.

There have been a couple movies shot here, The Breakdown, starring Kurt Russell and 3,000 Miles to Graceland with Russell, Kevin Costner and Courtney Cox.

It is a great place for photography and we even saw some models using the rustic setting for portfolio shots.

Thanks to Robin for shooting a bunch of these photos. We'll definitely be back to Eldorado Canyon. There's a road in Eagle Wash we want to explore, the mine tours and even canoe rentals for heading out onto the lake.
