We drove about 10 miles up Lovell Canyon Road until the snow got too deep to keep going. Elko had a blast.
Lovell Canyon Road is accessible from Highway 160 (aka Blue Diamond Road) heading west out of Las Vegas on the way toward Pahrump. It goes north of the road on the west side of the Spring Mountains, past Mountain Springs and heads into the Red Rock National Conservation Area.
The road is paved and this shot here was just a couple miles from 160. It got much deeper and impassable about 12 miles in.
We saw this Jeep among several vehicles that got stuck.
I managed to get the Trooper stuck for a few minutes while trying to find a spot to park of the road. The snow was probably about 18 inches deep and we wound up getting slightly stuck. I was able to brush the snow out from behind the tires and rock it out of the spot. At that point, maybe a few hundred yards below where the Jeep got stuck, we decided to turn it around and park facing downhill.
The good news was, there was plenty of snow for Elko. He bounded around like a crazy dog.
Afterward we stopped at Mountain Springs Saloon, one of our favorite haunts in the area. They had16 oz. Bass Ales for $2 and Cohiba cigars for $5.
Robin shot this cool photo of some icicles hanging off the awning.
