Before anyone starts griping that pictures from a Las Vegas casino don't have anything to do with an outdoors Web site, please note most of them were actually shot outdoors.

They're shots from a recent trip to the top of the Stratosphere with some out-of-town friends. I was going to just keep them for personal use (the pictures, not the friends because, well, if you try to enslave friends for your own personal benefit they will likely cease to become friends) but this one with the maintenance guys working on the carnival rides while it is operating was too fun to keep to myself.

Just a few tweaks to the old gearhouse, no need to stop the ride. What could possibly go wrong?

I wonder at what point the people being flung beyond the edge of the tower, about 1,100 feet above ground, noticed the guys doing maintenance.

We didn't bother to ask what, exactly, the workers were doing. This is the Internet, after all, not one of your fancy newspapers with all its precious facts and verification.

We did purchase alcohol and check out some more of the rides, though, for journalism.

The guy at the bar said he wasn't sure how many people vomit over the side of the car.

It mostly depends on how much they drink first. And given the ticket to the top of the tower (12 bucks for locals!) includes three two-for-one coupons for drinks advertised as liquid courage, it is probably a lot.

Think about that next time you think about walking around outside the bottom of the Stratosphere.

Here's a shot with Steve Wynn's golf course for Wynn and Encore and McCarran International Airport.

And here's one of Yours Truly with his special lady. (There's a Big Lebowski reference in that sentence.)

Below is the nice couple from Northern California we took to the Strat and then Primm. That's the awesome thing about tourists, they can't always tell when they're slumming. I can only speculate as to how much Las Vegas locals save by keeping friends and family in the dark about the swanky side of Las Vegas while distracting them with cheap thrills at places like the Stratosphere and then hustling them out to Primm.

Still, they were great guests and we had a blast, especially in Primm. So what the hell.
