Hal Summers isn't from Nevada, but his hike-a-day project underway in Southern California is so compelling we thought it Nevada Outdoor News readers would get a kick out of it. Summers is a former outdoor shop owner who decided to do a hike every day in 2009 and write about the results. Based in La Quinta, Calif., Summers says the first few months have been great. But he's worried about the summer months when temperatures in the Coachella Valley, an area roughly from Palm Springs to the Salton Sea, regularly top 100 degrees. Your Nevada Outdoor News publisher's former residency in Palm Desert makes him particularly attuned to this concern. But don't take our word for it, read what Summers has to say after the jump. And follow him on his hike-a-day blog. |
